Concerns

It crept upon us, slow and deliberate.
It was careful not to pounce, to prey.
It slithered within the cracked confines of our minds.
It wasn't until the world's concerns touched our shores
that we began to see, to feel, to understand, to empathize.

We begin to remember what life, without the constructs of time, felt like.
We begin to remember what time, without the demands of life, felt like.
We seem more connected within this inflicted isolation.
We don't have to make time, suddenly, we have nothing but it.
While tens of thousands of others struggle with the last bit of theirs.

Some rush to claim what used to be.
Others desire nothing more than to let what was wither on the vine.
The rest realize that an exact replica of the past is impossible.
Time has passed; some of us have changed, others never will.
The rest will do what they are told, as they always have.

It is what it is
but
what if it was what it could be?
